Braunsia apiculata flowers and fruits

Flowering in September while the fruit capsules of last year are still present, this Braunsia apiculata plant has short brown, woody stems visible between the nodes of the opposite leaf pairs.

Braunsia flowers open around noon and close at dusk (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998; www.cactus-art.biz).
