A mature Tylecodon cacalioides plant has many branched stems, a little like some castle structures seen in parts of southern Europe. Tylecodon leaves drop off in summer, differentiating them from the cotyledons. Tylecodon is an anagram of Cotyledon, both genera forming part of the Crassulaceae family (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
