Pelargonium cucullatum west of the Kogelberg

Pelargonium cucullatum is sometimes called the tree pelargonium on account of its size, its broadly sprawling habit and height of up to 2 m.

It is also called the hooded pelargonium, due to the hooded, in-folded or cupped shape of the round to kidney-shaped leaves. These leaves bring part of the plant’s attraction, are sturdy, wavy and roughly toothed, sometimes with red on the margins. Cucullatus is a Latin word meaning hooded (Manning, 2009; iNaturalist; www.plantzafrica.com).
