    The sweetly scented inflorescence of Dalbergia melanoxylon consists of branched sprays up to 10 cm long, growing from spiny spur-branchlets. The flower pedicels are short.

    Abundant blooming follows rain from mid-spring to early summer. New leaves of this winter deciduous tree appear simultaneously or just after the flowers (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Grant and Thomas, 2001; iSpot).
