Hermannia flammula flowers nod as hermannias generally do but some species may turn their flowers up after pollination. The fruits are thus presented to foragers, favourable for dispersal of the seeds. Many hermannias are very palatable to game and stock.
H. flammula flower colours include red and orange-red but also pink-purplish as here. The pale, bell-shaped calyx is here raised from the corolla, the sepal tips curving in.
This plant was photographed in September in the De Hoop Nature Reserve (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
