Bulbinella nutans flower

The stalked, yellow, cream or nearly white flower of Bulbinella nutans has six tepals positioned in two whorls. Each short, broad tepal is about oblong and blunt-tipped, its margins curving in.

Six translucent filaments angle up from around the base of the superior ovary, their grooved anthers yellow or brown, depending on age. As for all Bulbinella stamens, the filaments are without “beards”.

The ovary is three-chambered with two ovules per chamber. The cylindrical style ends in a small stigma (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
