Cheiridopsis denticulata fleshy and dry fruit

The pale, shiny Cheiridopsis denticulata fruit has seventeen locules. The still fleshy valve tops are surrounded by the pointed remains of the five dry, spreading sepals that earlier surrounded the flower base.

An older, grey-brown husk of a seed-head is visible below. It probably was a flower about a year ago. The dark locules now empty hollows, the seeds and some other parts long gone.

Some of the leaves in picture have one or two teeth on the keel where it tapers sharply towards the leaf-tip. The mucro-like leaf-tips, not quite spines, are similar to the pointed tips of the keel teeth.

The one pair of young leaves in picture still cohere, their tips unequal (Le Roux, et al, 2009; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
