    Aloidendron dichotomum bark cracks open like coloured rivers where stem thickness expansion breaks the smooth outer surface. The base thickens first and most, the “rivers” all flowing to the base below, as gravity would have it if water had been involved here.

    More such cracks proliferate in different shapes and sizes on old stems of this tree, the colour contrast typical.
