    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This Dimorphotheca sinuata bud has swollen to a partly rounded shape before revealing its ray florets. Well covered in curving white hairs on its lower part, the hairs are longer than on the surrounding leaves. The cone-shaped bud tip is also short-haired where the involucral bracts narrow and cohere to an acutely shaped tip.

A gap is opening between two bracts, like the peeping eye of some young, green chick unsure of wanting to see yet.

The few teeth typical of a D. sinuata leaf margin are still absent from the smallest, youngest leaf in picture (Manning, 2009; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist).
