Adromischus triflorus old inflorescence

This young Adromischus triflorus plant is resting at the end of May after producing a full inflorescence during the summer. The narrow, brown, curving sepals are all that have remained of the flowers along the straight, erect stalk.

When young, each star-shaped calyx of five sepals was positioned in support around the base of a long corolla tube. A pair of young leaves have already sprouted in the centre, the wet winter season having started. The young leaves are orange-brown in colour and yet lacking the characteristic triangular shape, but have the succulence (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
