Abutilon grandiflorum flower

The yellow Abutilon grandiflorum flower spreads its five wedge-shaped petals widely. The erect staminal column in the flower centre is carrying many filaments spreading from its tip or near it.

The flower is 3 cm to 5,5 cm in diameter. The specific name, grandiflorum, is derived from the Latin words grandis meaning large (among other things) and florum meaning flower, referring to flower size.

The fruit is globose, depressed on top, in picture already old, dark and opened, the seeds dispersed (Letty, 1962; iNaturalist; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
