Moraea miniata leaves

The two, sometimes three leaves of Moraea miniata, in Afrikaans known as the pronktulp (strutting moraea), are narrow, strap-shaped and channelled, usually longer than the stem. They sheathe the stem, spaced below or among the lower flowers and curving out in their long upper parts.

The plant is sometimes called the two-leaved Cape tulip although tulip it is not and the leaves may be three.

The green bracts subtending the flowers on the stem are leaf-like, folding in around the buds or flower bases. The inner bract becomes taller than the outer one (Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
