Oxalis obtusa in the Little Karoo

This Oxalis obtusa flower was seen near Oudtshoorn in September. The Afrikaans common name of this plant, geeloogsuring (yellow eye sorrel), refers to the yellow colouring inside the funnel or cup of the flower. Outside this cup the petals spread into broad, rounded or sometimes fairly square-tipped lobes that assume one of several colours, ranging from yellow, pink, brick-red or white (Manning, 2009; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
