Solanum campylacanthum subsp. panduriforme fruit

This Solanum campylacanthum subsp. panduriforme plant of over 1 m tall proudly presented some green fruit in April. The patchy pale and dark green fruit surface will be yellow when ripe. It is fleshy and spherical with a diameter of 2 cm, hanging from a long stalk.

The green fruit is poisonous but used in the treatment of ailments at both ends of the alimentary canal or gastrointestinal tract: toothache and haemorrhoids. Also used for skin infections (Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997).
