Tetragonia microptera leaves

The stalked, alternate leaves of Tetragonia microptera are strongly fleshy or slightly succulent, ovate in shape. The sturdy stalk may be slightly channelled above. The leaf margins are entire, tapering to a bluntly pointed tip, the base attenuating abruptly to almost square.

The dull to pale green blades are covered in minute hair or warty protrusions. The leaf dimensions are 5 mm to 20 mm long and 5 mm to 18 mm wide, the percentage small leaves high. 

The leaf midrib is slightly sunken above, prominent below and sometimes yellowish. There are also a few incurving, lateral veins ascending from the midrib visible on some leaves.

The plant is grazed by stock and game (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
