The three to six leaves annually grown by a Babiana ambigua plant become 4 cm to 8 cm long and 3 mm to 1 cm wide. Long, shiny hairs are visible on the leaves in the photo.

The flower tube of this Babiana is short, varying between 1 cm and 2 cm in length. The corolla is usually blue to mauve, occasionally somewhat pink. Flowering happens at the end of winter into early spring (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning, 2007; iSpot).
