Habenaria cornuta grabbing

The pair of lateral lip lobes of this Habenaria cornuta flower are fleshy and white, tapering to greenish tips. They are shorter than the incurving lateral sepals above them, but much bigger than the thin, thread-like lateral petals still higher up, close to the sides of the bowl-shaped dorsal sepal at the top of each flower.

The mid-lobe of the lip is less conspicuous between the lateral ones, bent down above the twisted spur that becomes about 1,5 cm long. The spur has an inflated tip appearing spoon-shaped. It is unclear which of the several floral segment protrusions earned the plant its specific name of cornuta, Latin for being horned (Pooley, 1998).
