Habenaria cornuta facing up

Seen in profile here, the Habenaria cornuta flower has its dorsal sepal in position to collect raindrops or dew. Such practices are unknown in flowers, unless the whim to cater for pollinator guest needs might occur.

The pair of thin green lateral petals flanking the dorsal sepal (without adhering to it in this species), are clear to see. These petals are often missed due to their inconspicuous size, compared to lateral sepals and lip lobes (seen towards the right in the photo).

The stigma arms are short in H. cornuta, about 3 mm to 8 mm, positioned in front of the column (Pooley, 1998).
