    Searsia angustifolia new growth

    Searsia angustifolia new growth
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

New growth at a Searsia angustifolia stem-tip has its leaflets folded in more along the dominant midribs, the surfaces shinier, and nearer erect than the leaflets spreading below.

The red on the long petioles and short petiolules stays longer than on the tiny leaflet blades soon on their way to green. The ascending lateral veins are most conspicuous on the smallest leaflets (Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist).
