Moraea inconspicua, sometimes called the tough tulp is a slender perennial reaching heights from 25 cm to 45 cm. The branched stems and peduncles are notably sticky.
The species distribution is mainly in the Western Cape, slightly into the Northern Cape around the Bokkeveld Plateau and in a coastal strip into the Eastern Cape as far as Port Elizabeth. The photo was taken in the Biedouw Valley.
The habitat is renosterveld, fynbos and grassy places on sandy and clayey lower slopes and flats, coastally and inland. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Moriarty, 1997; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
