The young Pelargonium trifidum leaves do not yet have red margins as the older ones tend to develop. The three main leaf lobes may develop a big secondary lobe or two. All the bigger lobes are embellished with small, thick-rimmed, round-tipped, marginal lobelets that fold in, forming channels that drain into the leaf-base.
The light green to bright green young blades have faint coverings of whitish, stubbly hairs. The long, maroon stem also has such hairs, short like dots (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist; www.plantzafrica.com).
