The young raceme of Lachenalia bulbifera has a yellowish to buff orange flower stem. It appears unmarked or unspotted among the lower flowers. Higher up it is red as the buds and so are the upper pedicels.

Upon the lower pedicels in picture there are minute bracts; pointed and coloured creamy yellow as their surroundings.

Some of the bud tips are also creamy yellow to whitish. Immature flowers sometimes assume interim colours, after green and before adult. Pigment development and environmental factors play their roles in this (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
