    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

In profile here this bud shape of Aloinopsis luckhoffii, the Calvinia wartfig, promises to present its flower on a longish stalk. Flower colour may be one of several shades of yellow or sometimes pinkish.

The reptilian leaf surfaces have curious pale warts spaced in leaf-tip and other rows.

The small natural distribution of the species north and northwest of Loeriesfontein consists of a stable population of plants flourishing in their inimitable way in Karoo conditions (Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; http://llifle.com).

(There are more entries about A. luckhoffii in the Mesemb Album on this Site).
